Bex Simon – Testimonials
Question – where do you find a 4m high sculpture to provide a suitably impressive entrance feature in a shopping centre.
Answer – you get Bex Simon to design and create one for you – simple. Really a no-brainer!
As Managing Agent for a neighbourhood shopping centre near Oxford we were building a new fully glazed, minimalistic entrance and needed an eye-catching organic sculpture to act as a focal point and create a sense of identity for The Kidlington Centre. Having seen some of her highly original metal creations, I asked her to take on this very important commission. After a range of proposals, needless to say the first was the one and she built a delightful little moquette for me to show my clients who unanimously gave it the go ahead.
Then followed some months of creation at her workshop in East London where she and her colleague, Stuart, built a frame on to which they moulded sheet steel into a most beautiful flowing “coral” (and she got married in the middle of all this!). Like any couture creation we had “a number of fittings” and then one Sunday in August 2009 on a flat bed truck the sculpture was delivered personally and erected by the little lady with a mop of curly black hair and an infectious laugh wearing hob nail boots and shorts – Bex Simon.
It has received nothing but high praise and she has one very happy customer. My clients and I wish her every success in the future – she deserves it.

Thanks for the gates they are even better than we had hoped for. Even putting the dustbin out has become an aesthetic experience.

We called on Bex Simon to design and produce our garden gate because we wanted something both attractive and original. Bex understood exactly what we wanted and came up with quite a few ideas to choose from. Once this difficult decision was made, Bex returned exactly on schedule with a beautiful piece of practical art whish is admired on a regular basis. We’d definitely ask her to design for us again. We’re delighted with our gate.

We are delighted with our gates. I felt involved with the whole design process from start to finish. Bex’s interpretation of my initial ideas was inspired. The gates are quite simply a work of art. Not only are they strikingly beautiful they are a strong, well built and functional pair of gates. It is a rare occurrence that someone arrives at our house for the first time without commenting on them, we have even spotted passers by photographing them. I don’t think I will ever tire of looking at them and they looked especially striking after the snow we had earlier in the year.

My wife and I had for a number of years been searching for a suitable garden gate that was both aesthetically interesting but sufficiently robust to weather a rather harsh climatic position. During the course of 2006 a small article appeared about Bex’s work which attracted out attention as her work appeared to meet with our criteria. Consequently we contacted Bex and met with her in situ so that she could envisage what we had in mind and discuss various ideas and designs in response. She then produced a series of different designs which we then discussed further with her so that after a bit of tweaking she was able to produce a final design that met with our approval. Having agreed the final design she then proceeded to photograph the location, the existing gate and take a series of detailed measurements for the production and installation of the new gate. We agreed a mutually acceptable approximate delivery and fit up date and implementation took place in accordance with this at the agreed time very efficiently. We are both thrilled and extremely pleased with Bex’s creation and everyone who has seen it has expressed admiration for it. Her work is a rare example of cutting edge design and aesthetic with an efficient practical application.

In these time when people are content to follow like sheep, not wishing to step outside of what is considered ‘normal’ and safe it is an absolute joy to work with someone like Bex who totally gets what being original means. When I asked her to design gates that did not conform to what would normally be expected to be in front of a Mock Tudor style house but had influences of Gaudi who in my opinion changed the face of design and architecture I was blown away when she gave me 6 different designs to choose from… I believe that when you commission a piece of work of outstanding originality you never grow weary of it. I feel particularly blessed every time I go in and out through them and continue to bask in the never ending stream of praise & complements I get about them. I’ve always told Bex that when she became famous I would be able to say I knew you when… Which I’m happy to say is finally happening.

From the outset, the thing that strikes you about Bex is the energy and enthusiasm that she brings to all her projects. In the design process, Bex was open and intuitive. She listened carefully to my ideas and immediately connected to the look I was trying to achieve. The wealth of creative ideas that she came back with was overwhelming. She took my vision, improved it beyond imagination and created some beautiful pieces for me which will stay with me forever. She achieves all this with an infectious warmth and inclusiveness, coupled with an efficiency and professionalism that smooths the whole process.
