The Form – The unique organic form of the mortar comprises an undercut at the rim to retain those hard spices from bouncing out. The Lip – Besides adding style and charm to the mortar, the lip allows the ground material to be easily removed from the undercut of the mortar. The Rough and the Smooth – While the outer surfaces have been polished to provide a lustrous effect, the inner face of the mortar has a shot-blasted finish to provide a course abrasive plane. The Weight – Stable and sturdy – this pestle and mortar will do all the work for you by using the weight behind the pestle against the solid mortar bowl which grips the work surface with its rubber base to prevent scratching and slipping.
